TOKYO, Japan - A pristine beach on Ogasawara islands, one of the five cultural and natural sites short-listed by Japan on Jan. 29 for designation as UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Ogasawara are home to around 500 indigenous flora and fauna. The other four sites are Mt. Fuji, Nagasaki churches and other Christian assets, Tomioka Silk Mill in Gunma, a symbol of Japan's industrial modernization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and historic ruins in Asuka village in Nara, a site known for colorful murals in the Takamatsuzuka and Kitora tombs.

This special art got its name from a kind of aquatic plant growing in Yilong Lake, and is known for its wide vocal range, pleasant melody and indigenous lyrics.
